Finding Healthier Product Options: Apps & Resources I Love

When I talk about a “lower toxins lifestyle,” I’m not promising a 100% non-toxic existence. Instead, it’s about balance—making mindful swaps without obsessing over every product and/or food that you have nor shaming yourself for still having more “toxic” products that you are using. It’s about taking small, meaningful steps towards a healthier life. It doesn’t have to be high pressure and anxiety-inducing. You can rest in the fact that every small switch you are making is making a big difference.

My Favorite Apps for Healthier Choices

apps and resources for non toxic products

EWG Healthy Living

This app is a gem for scanning and reviewing everyday products. It breaks down ingredients and gives each product a rating, so you know exactly what you’re putting on your body. The best part? It’s free - letting you explore healthier alternatives without spending a dime.

Think Dirty

This app is really helpful for personal care and cosmetic products, Think Dirty lets you quickly check the “dirt” on the ingredients in your makeup and skincare. The app points out cleaner options so you can make smarter choices (because honestly, who can pronounce half of these ingredients?). The app is free, with some premium features available for those who want an even deeper dive.

Yuka

Okay, now this is my favorite one! Shopping for food or everyday items? Yuka scans barcodes and rates foods and products based on their nutritional value and ingredient quality. It tells you which foods are “excellent”, “good”, “acceptable”, “poor” or “very poor”. It also shows you exactly why it is rated that way by detailing the “positives” and “negatives” that are based off of:

  •  Fiber amount

  • Protein amount

  • Saturated fat amount

  • Sodium amount

  • Sugar amount

  • If it is too caloric and

  • The best part -if there are any additives in it, if those additives are high-risk, limited risk or risk-free and a deep dive as to “more information on the additives” with drop downs on each additive that explains what the ingredient is for, and any potential associated risks that come with it along with scientific sources and further reading to explain and back all of the information up.

When I tell you this app has single handedly changed my life - it does all of the work for you and you don’t have to be a scientist to understand it. This has helped me with many pantry clean outs, reviewing products at the store by scanning them before I buy them, and learning what ingredients are not good as I go. Yuka is free to download and use and with the upgrades, you can look up any store products without having to physically scan them first so it helps you with researching before you buy ahead of time.

Places & Resources Beyond Apps

Earthley

This is my favorite brand that I use every day. I have used over 25 of their products (some of which have changed my bloodwork from low iron to great iron levels, helped my hormones to level out, helped me overcome gut issues and so much more that I will further share in other blogs). After years of consistently seeing my health improved by these products, I believe in the products so much that I have become an Earthley affiliate and share these products with everyone that I know. Just last week I had a friend text me that their Cold Sore Serum has been the only thing that has completely cleared up her cold sores - and that is one product I haven’t tried of theirs so i’m always amazed at how each product works so well for everyone that I know that tries them! Since improving my health so much with these products I have become so passionate about understanding how products impact our lives and getting to the root of the issue rather than covering it up with something that could potentially mask a health issue rather than treat it. You can check out my favorites on my website HERE for a closer look at what I love that are all in my cabinets that I use consistently and the links to each of them.

Thrive Market

For food and household products, Thrive Market has helped me immensely. With a membership that offers discounted prices on healthier and non-toxic products, they have a wide range of several products that are healthier choices from dish soap to healthy snacks that don’t have dyes, seed oils, etc. My order that just arrived today has in it dish soap, taco seasoning, dishwasher pods, toddler protein bars, baby lotion, baby yogurt bites and healthier chocolate candies so this goes to show you how much they have available - ha!

Amazon Favorites

I also share all of my favorite lower toxins (or non-tox) products on my Amazon storefront and go into several of these on my blogs. You can find all of my blogs on my blog site here: Nurture Nook Blog Site. These are items I personally use and love, and as an Amazon affiliate, I earn commissions on qualifying purchases. Feel free to browse my curated selection for even more ideas on how to live a healthier life. My storefront is linked HERE if you would like to see all of my different favorite products.

Remember…

Every step toward healthier living is amazing—even if it isn’t perfect. It’s not about obsessing over every detail, but rather making small, important changes that add up over time.
